When’s the best time for family photos on the Mornington Peninsula?

Let’s be real—there’s no such thing as the “perfect” moment. Waiting until the kids are older, the house is spotless, your partner is "ready" or you’ve mastered that fitness goal? It’s overrated. Right now, in all its beautiful chaos, is the perfect time to capture your story.

Life moves fast, and these moments won’t stick around forever. By documenting the here and now, you’re creating priceless memories to look back on and share with generations to come. The messy, real, and love-filled moments? They’re the ones you’ll cherish most.

Family photos aren’t about posing stiffly — they’re about capturing your tribe exactly as they are: sandy toes, salty hair, sun-kissed freckles, and little moments of laughter and connection. Planning a beach session can feel a bit tricky with weather, daylight, and kids’ moods — but that’s where I come in.

You don’t have to worry. I’ll keep an eye on the weather and tides for you, and I’ll send you clear tips on what to wear and how to prepare. I also have plenty of favourite Mornington Peninsula locations, so we can pick the perfect spot that feels like your family.

When’s the best time of the year for photos on the Mornington Peninsula?

Late afternoons in spring and summer are perfect for soft light, long shadows, and that warm glow that makes beach photos feel effortless. Daylight savings gives us extra time to capture that magic without rushing the kids.

Winter and autumn shoots have the added benefit of earlier sunsets for little kids. Dressing up in warm wooly jumpers and scarves can be such a gorgeous vibe too! A bit of wind in the hair actually is a good thing in photos and can add some movement and make the images feel more alive!

Happy Kids = Happy Photos

Hungry, tired, or cold kids = cranky kids. Pre-shoot snacks and a bit of wiggle time before we start make a huge difference. Don’t worry too much about everyone looking perfect - the aim is to capture real, authentic connection and love, rather than perfect hair.

Hot tip: for evening sessions, bring PJs so the kids can slip straight into bed after the beach fun.

No Stress, Just Memories

With me keeping an eye on tides and weather, sending prep tips, and picking a location you’ll love, all you need to do is show up ready for fun. Sand, sea spray, giggles, and salty hair — I’ll handle the rest.

At Salty Snaps, my goal is to capture those real, sun-drenched moments that tell your family’s story in a real, authentic way.

The best time is now, so don’t wait to capture your families memories.
